Using Overlay Buttons (Android)

  • Updated

This article is written for: Zello Work Zello Friends & Family.

This feature is only available on Android.

For help using overlay buttons on Zello Work, please reference this support article.

Overlay buttons enable you to add a PTT button that appears within other apps so you can continue conversations without keeping Zello open.

Enabling Overlay Buttons

Open any contact or channel talk screen and tap the drop-down menu icon on the right side of the screen.

Select Open overlay button from the drop-down menu.

You may see a menu pop up from your device requiring you to enable permissions for overlay buttons to appear on other apps. If this occurs, select Open Settings and allow Zello to display over other apps in your device's settings.

Once permissions have been enabled, you can start using overlay buttons to keep your Zello conversations going while using other apps.

Tips and Tricks

Overlay buttons are automatically set to toggle mode. This means that you tap the button once to begin talking rather than pressing and holding the button. To stop recording, tap the button again.

Each overlay button displays the name of the channel, group conversation, or contact you are talking to. You can open as many overlay buttons as you wish.

You can place overlay buttons anywhere on the screen. To move an overlay button, press and hold the button, then drag it to the desired location. If you wish to delete an overlay button, drag it to the red X icon at the top of the screen.
