Rapid press emergency alerts let users send an emergency alert using only their PTT button. When the feature is enabled, pressing a PTT button several times in quick succession triggers an alert without the user needing to look at their screen or have a device or accessory with a dedicated SOS button. Emergency alerts, including rapid press, are available on Zello Work networks subscribed to the Plus or Enterprise plan. This article covers how to enable rapid press emergency alerts for your network and how to use them. ### **Setting up rapid press emergency alerts on your network** To use rapid press emergency alerts on a network, they first need to be enabled in the Management Console. This section covers the prerequisites and walks you through the setup. #### **Prerequisites** Before you begin, make sure everyone on your network is running a version of Zello that supports this feature: - iOS 7.20 or later - Android 7.15 or later (Not sure which version you’re on?[Here’s how to check.](https://support.zello.com/zw/finding-zellos-version-number?hsLang=en)) Your network also needs a designated emergency channel that includes every user who should be able to send an alert. For help setting one up, see[Emergency Alert Overview](https://support.zello.com/zw/emergency-alert-overview?hsLang=en). **Please note:** Rapid press emergency alerts can’t be used while[Silent Alert Activation](https://support.zello.com/zw/silent-alert-activation?hsLang=en) is enabled. #### **Enabling rapid press emergency alerts** To enable the feature for your network, sign in to the Management Console (yournetworkname.zellowork.com) and follow these steps: 1. Locate the **Rapid press to trigger emergency alert** setting and enable it using the toggle. Click **Save and Apply**. ![](https://support.zello.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Oct-15-2026-08-28-04-0483-PM.png?width=670&height=230&name=undefined-Oct-15-2026-08-28-04-0483-PM.png) You can enable the setting network-wide, or apply it to specific groups of users with user templates. ### **Using rapid press emergency alerts** Once rapid press emergency alerts are enabled, you can send an alert by pressing your PTT button five times within five seconds. You can use your device’s built-in PTT button or the PTT button on a wired or Bluetooth accessory. Your first four presses work like normal talk presses, so your selected channel may hear a few short transmissions. On the fifth press, Zello plays a tone and starts the emergency countdown.
