# Using the PTT button

This article is written for: ✅ Zello Work  ❌ Zello Friends & Family.

From the talk screen of a contact or channel, you'll see Zello's PTT button. Press and hold this button to transmit your voice message.

The PTT button has 3 possible states:

The PTT button can be [mapped](https://paidsupport.zello.com/hc/en-us/articles/26910196112525-Mapping-an-external-PTT-button-to-Zello-iOS-Android) to wireless and Bluetooth headsets, as well as to the iPhone 15's [action button](https://paidsupport.zello.com/hc/en-us/articles/26962079252877-Mapping-Zello-s-PTT-Functionality-to-the-iOS-Action-button). Additionally, users can [configure the PTT button](https://support.zellowork.com/hc/en-us/articles/212550137-What-does-the-toggle-mode-option-do) to operate in either hold-to-talk (default; press and hold to transmit your message) or toggle (press once to start recording your message and once to end the recording) mode.
