Silent Alert Activation

This article is written for: ✅ Zello Work ❌ Zello Friends & Family.

Silent Alert Activation lets users trigger an Emergency Alert discreetly, with no sound or vibration on the sending device. It is designed for situations where drawing attention to the person sending the alert could put them at risk, such as a retail associate quietly requesting help, and it allows Zello to be used as a silent panic button.

This setting is off by default, which preserves the standard Emergency Alert experience (countdown tone, transmission sound, and vibration when an alert is sent).

What happens when the setting is enabled

When Silent Alert Activation is on, triggering an Emergency Alert produces no audible or haptic feedback on the sender's device. It removes:

  • the countdown tones that play before the alert is sent,
  • the transmission sounds when the alert's automatic message is sent, and
  • the vibration and button-press haptic feedback.

The alert is still sent normally and recipients are notified as usual. The on-screen countdown still appears on the sender's device, so the user can see the alert is being triggered even though it makes no sound.

Important: Silent Alert Activation silences only the act of triggering the alert. Once the emergency is active, if the user presses the talk button to speak on the emergency channel, the normal talk sounds play. This setting only hides the cues that would reveal that an alert is being started.

Enable Silent Alert Activation

This is an administrator setting.

  1. Log into the Management Console at [yournetworkname].zellowork.com.
  2. In the Management Console, select Administration, then Settings.
  3. Scroll to the Emergency Alerts settings.
  4. Turn on Silent Alert Activation using the toggle. (Note that a green toggle means that the feature is enabled.)
    Enable Silent Alert Activation
  5. Click Save and Apply.
    Click save and apply-1

You can enable it network-wide, or apply it to specific groups of users with user templates. After saving, affected users should sign out and back in (or force-close and reopen the app) for the change to take effect.
